BPC-157: The “Body Protection Compound”

Posted on February 9, 2026February 11, 2026

BPC-157 is a pentadecapeptide composed of 15 amino acids. It is a partial sequence of the body protection compound (BPC) found in human gastric juice. It is primarily known for its profound regenerative and cytoprotective (cell-protecting) properties.

Cheat Sheet: BPC-157 Quick Facts

  • Classification: * Peptide: Specifically a synthetic pentadecapeptide.
    • Category: Regenerative medicine / Healing peptide.
  • General Dosing Range:
    • Standard: 250 – 500mcg per day.
    • High End: Up to 1 gram per day for acute, severe injuries.
  • Dosing Strategy:
    • Administration: Subcutaneous (SubQ) or Intramuscular (IM) injection is most common for systemic/localized repair. Oral (stable BPC) is effective for GI tract issues.
    • Frequency: Once daily or split into two doses (morning/night).
  • Side Effects:
    • Generally well-tolerated.
    • Mild nausea, dizziness, or localized redness/irritation at the injection site.
    • Rarely, reports of “anhedonia” (dulled emotions) in sensitive individuals.
  • Synergy & Improvements:
    • TB-500: Often stacked together; BPC-157 handles angiogenesis and growth factors, while TB-500 focuses on cellular migration and inflammation.
    • Growth Hormone/Secretagogues: Can enhance the overall IGF-1 mediated healing environment.
  • Half-Life:
    • Extremely short; estimated at approx. 4–6 hours (though biological effects persist longer).
  • Peak Saturation:
    • Achieved quickly after injection; systemic benefits are often felt within hours, though tissue repair takes days to weeks of consistent use.
  • Detectability: * Currently on the WADA Prohibited List (S2. Peptide Hormones and Growth Factors). Detection times vary but are generally short due to the peptide nature.
  • Genomic vs. Non-Genomic:
    • Non-Genomic: Rapid activation of cell signaling pathways (e.g., VEGFR2).
    • Genomic: Influences gene expression related to collagen synthesis, growth factor receptors, and tendon-to-bone healing.
  • Duration of Use:
    • Typically 4 to 12 weeks, followed by a break (usually equal to the duration of use).
  • Key Benefits:
    • Accelerated healing of tendons, ligaments, and muscles.
    • Gastrointestinal repair (leaky gut, IBS, ulcers).
    • Reduced systemic inflammation.
    • Neuroprotective qualities and brain-gut axis support.
  • Pathways:
    • Upregulation of VEGF (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor) for angiogenesis (new blood vessel growth).
    • Upregulation of Growth Factor Receptors (specifically for TGF-$\beta$).
    • Modulation of the nitric oxide (NO) system.
  • Avoid Taking With:
    • No major direct contraindications, but use caution with heavy stimulants or substances that severely alter dopamine, as BPC-157 may modulate neurotransmitter receptors.

General Notes & Clinical Overview

BPC-157 is widely regarded in the biohacking and athletic communities as the “gold standard” for connective tissue repair. Unlike traditional anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) which can actually inhibit long-term tissue remodeling, BPC-157 works by actively promoting angiogenesis—the formation of new blood vessels. This is crucial because tendons and ligaments naturally have poor blood supply, which is why they usually take so long to heal. By “bringing the blood” to the injury site, BPC-157 facilitates the delivery of nutrients and cellular signals required for reconstruction.

Beyond physical injury, its impact on the gut-brain axis is significant. Because it is derived from gastric juice, it is remarkably stable in an acidic environment (when using the Arginine salt version). It has shown promise in “knitting” together the gut lining, making it a favorite for those dealing with chronic GI distress or inflammatory bowel conditions. Its systemic nature means that even a subcutaneous injection in the abdomen can provide benefits to a distant injury like an Achilles tendon or a rotator cuff.

While BPC-157 is incredibly effective, it should be viewed as a “repair signal” rather than a magic wand. For the best results in your coaching practice, it is most effective when paired with appropriate loading protocols (rehabilitation exercises) and adequate protein intake. It provides the biological “green light” for the body to fix itself, but the body still requires the raw materials and mechanical stimulus to complete the job.
